3/7/2025 Final Devlog - ImJustDoingThings

Hello Everyone,

This is the final devlog for our game, and since it is the last, each member of the team is going to be writing a postmortem devlog. This is mine, and as per the school assignment, I will take a look at what was challenging, what wasn't, our solutions, and the stuff we learned.

The biggest challenges we faced was probably an inconsistent workload. Throughout the project, there were a few times where one person felt like they had a bunch to do, but another person felt like they didn't have much to do. Other times, one person was working on something, and the other person couldn't work on it to avoid conflicting files. These problems were solved by creating a list of things we could work on, and focusing on other tasks while one person works on the main game scene.

I am most proud of how the game turned out, of what we managed to accomplish in two weeks. It has a full loop, everything works as intended, and we have two ending slides depending on if the player wins or loses. Originally, when we begun this project, I was planning on giving the player more things to do besides running after enemies and ripping them apart, but we decided not to give the player more abilities that would make it more complicated, and because of time.

We learned some planning skills, to not spend an entire day working on a single thing without a break, and also I learned some more about coding and unity. For example, the changing filter and fade-to-black were things I learned how to do during this project. If we could do it again, we would probably have organized the branches, folders and other stuff that players don't directly see better, because there's a bunch of folders that only have like one or two things in them because we were worried about creating conflicting files in Github. The time limit didn't affect our group too much, but did give us a sense of urgency to make sure we finished things quickly, and it prevented us from doing certain things like giving the player more abilities or weapons, or fixing how the claw looks when the player is facing a right.

To someone who is participating in a gamejam for the first time, I'd recommend that you use your time wisely. In most cases, don't spend too much time on one single thing and if you are, move on to a different project and return to that slow one later.

Thank you for whatever interest you have invested in our game,
